types of RV propane tanks we service
Most RVs actually carry two different kinds of propane tanks, and not every propane provider fills both. At deBoer Propane, we do.
ASME tanks are the large, permanently mounted tanks built into your RV. You'll find them underneath Class A and Class C motorhomes, bolted to the frame. Because they're part of the vehicle, they can't be removed for filling, you pull up and we fill it on-site. These typically range from 20 to 100 gallons.
DOT cylinders are the familiar portable bottles, the kind you'd also use on a gas grill. They're common on travel trailers and fifth wheels, where they sit upright in a rack at the front of the trailer. These can be removed, swapped, or refilled in place, and range from 20 lb to 100 lb tanks.
Not sure which type you have? A quick look tells you everything: if the tank is mounted under the coach and has a gauge built into the vehicle's dash or panel, it's ASME. If it's a freestanding bottle you can unhook and carry, it's DOT.
We refill both, no appointment needed for most refills. Pull up to our fill station at 177 Industrial Drive, Big Pine Key, right at our bulk plant, and we'll have you back on the road fast. We also fill portable cylinders up to 100 lb on the spot.
Fill station hours: Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm.
Why RVers Choose deBoer Propane
The Florida Keys isn't like most stops on a road trip. It's a narrow ribbon of islands with one road in and one road out, which means when you need propane, you need someone who actually knows this place and shows up reliably.
- A real fill station, not a swap kiosk. We built a dedicated RV propane fill station at our bulk plant in Big Pine Key, right on US-1 at mile marker 31. Pull in, get filled, and go. We service all RVs, including onboard ASME tanks, plus portable DOT cylinders up to 100 lb. No exchanges, no waiting on a delivery window.
- Open when you need it. The fill station runs Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm. Planning around that is easy, it's the same window most travelers are moving anyway. Need something outside those hours? Call us and we'll work something out.
- We're local, not a chain. Big-box exchange stations won't touch your onboard ASME system. We fill what you have, check your connections, and flag anything that needs attention before you're back out on the highway.
- Certified technicians, not just fuel. Our team can spot a failing regulator, a worn valve, or a connection that looks fine but isn't. For RVers who live on the road, that kind of eyes-on service catches small problems before they become expensive ones.
